USING his skills on the field, 10-year-old Kevin Andrews, of St Marys, was the highest point-scorer in Penrith Junior Rugby League Club's moderate football last season.
Playing for the St Clair Comets in under-10 division 5 side, Kevin scored 152 points during the regular season (not including semi-finals and finals) with tries scored and goals kicked.
Kevin said he was surprised by the achievement.
"I was pretty shocked at first," he said. "I didn't know that I scored that many tries."
He said his family and team, although equally surprised, were very proud of him.
"My family were very happy for me," Kevin said.
Having played in different positions in his three years of competition, Kevin (pictured) found his form playing fullback for his St Clair team last season.
He had previously played wing and centre.
He said he particularly liked running the ball up and side stepping the opposition at fullback.
While he said there was no secret to his success last season, Kevin said his sidestepping skills had helped him on the field.
"I've been practising that and got good at it," he said.
Excited for the upcoming season, Kevin said he would focus on having fun.
He also said he had no expectations to try and recreate his success of last season.
