Jasmeen Hudson punches on

JASMEEN Hudson is hoping her triumph at the Boxing Australia championships is enough to earn her a spot in the Australian team.

JASMEEN Hudson is hoping her triumph at the Boxing Australia championships is enough to earn her a spot in the Australian team for the junior world championships.

The 15-year-old convincingly won her final on points in the 54kg category recently.

But she must now wait to see if she is selected.

Trainer Mark Grech said Jasmeen deserved to be in the squad.

"Jasmeen knew she had something to fight for as well as being Australian champion and she did herself proud," he said.

"She is now hoping to receive a phone call from Boxing Australia to see whether she is selected in the team.

"If she is selected we will look at getting her a few fights before she goes away in May or June as she has still had only under 10 fights.

"She will come up against some experienced fighters, so she needs that same experience."

Jasmeen wasn't the only boxer from Penrith's Jabout Gym to win a national title, with Tyeisha Palu and Ryan Rafferty also triumphing.

Shelley Watts and Raymond Wood picked up silver medals.

"As a team I think we did very well and could have had five Australian champions if it wasn't for two very closely fought matches," Grech said.
