HAMMER thrower Costa Kousparis is just weeks away from being announced in the Australian team to compete at the IAAF World Youth Championships in Ukraine.
Kousparis, 16, of Londonderry, threw two qualifying distances at recent events, including a personal best of 71.35m.
A podium finish at the Australian junior championships in Perth starting on March 12 will secure his position for the international event.
"I've been training really hard and I was pretty impressed with my 71.35m throw," Kousparis said. "My aim is to get to about 72m in Perth."
After representing Australia for the first time at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in January, the St Paul's Grammar School student wants to continue his impressive form.
"The aim now is to continue throwing well and that by the World Youth Championships in July to be throwing distances at about the mid-70s," he said.
"But first I want to make the team, then train hard to prove I still got it before going over."
