Garth Brennan becomes head coach of the Windsor Wolves

PENRITH Panthers have gone through a restructure of their teams as they aim to fast-track talented juniors.

Garth Brennan will coach his final game with the Holden Cup national youth competition (NYC) team this weekend after becoming head coach of the Windsor Wolves in the NSW Cup.

Brennan said executive general manager Phil Gould approached him about the role in a club restructure.

"(Gould) sees it as too big a step for players to step up from the NYC to NRL level," Brennan said.

"We have a very talented NYC team who are five from five and the thought is to fast-track them through to the NSW Cup and then NRL.

"I think having worked with the NYC boys for so long (Gould) believes I will be able to get the best out of them in their pathway to the NRL.

"In previous years it has always been the first grade squad being first priority and then the NYC. But now it will be first grade, NSW Cup and then NYC.

"So the plan is that (NRL coach) Ivan (Cleary) will pick his 17, then I will pick my 17, meaning I can choose players from the NYC team in that as well, then the NYC team will be picked."

The Panthers have also taken over the running of the Wolves side and will have some home games at Centrebet Stadium.

It is believed Penrith will have their own NSW Cup side next season after their deal with Windsor ends.
