FORMER Hills Sports High School footballer Kyah Simon scored a goal to help Sydney FC win the W-League title against Melbourne Victory on Sunday.
Simon was instrumental in the 3-1 win at Melbourne's AAMI Park and was awarded Player of the Match.
Two second-half goals ensured victory for the Sky Blues in what was a hard-fought encounter. Melbourne had their chances to secure a maiden grand final win, after midfielder Petra Larsson cancelled out Nicola Bolger's opener for Sydney.
The Quakers Hill striker played for Boston Breakers in the US women's professional league in 2012.
Meanwhile, in the A-League, in-form Wanderers consolidated their performance.
A late penalty by striker Shinji Ono helped the Western Sydney Wanderers secure a 1-0 win over Melbourne Heart at Parramatta Stadium.
The Wanderers cemented themselves in third spot despite playing with 10 men for 76 minutes, thanks to Jerome Polenz's first-half dismissal.
The side has won 10 out of its 18 matches this season and striker Mark Bridge is confident of a strong finals showing. "Anything can still happen, football's a funny thing, which is why we love it," he said.
"We're confident we'll be there at the end. We always said we were going to be competitive and just how competitive depends on us. We're doing well but we can't rest on our laurels."
Western Sydney Wanderers side sits level with Adelaide United on the ladder.
