EMU Plains Hockey Club officials are hoping to increase their junior numbers for the future of the club.

The Nepean Hockey Association foundation club has several more senior teams compared to its junior teams.

Club president Mick Hughes said it was important to bring new players to the club.

"Juniors are the future for us and really within five to 10 years they become our senior players anyway," he said.

"We have been around since 1972 and we aim to be around for a lot longer.

"Our juniors coach is former Australian player Michelle Kennedy, so the kids have the opportunity to get great coaching."

A new water-based field at the UWS hockey fields is also an addition to the association this year.

Juniors play on Fridays, with seniors at weekends.

"The good thing is that the boys and girls junior competitions are held on Friday nights, so parents have the weekends to themselves," Hughes said.

"Hockey is a great sport for co-ordination and gives kids an opportunity to aspire to play in the Olympics in years to come."
