COSTA Kousparis is willing to train at any time of the day or night in his quest to reach the hammer throw final at the IAAF World Youth Championships in July.

Kousparis, 16, of Londonderry, was selected as one of 21 Australian athletes to compete at the championships in Donetsk, Ukraine.

Throwing two qualifying distances and finishing second in the under-18 and under-20 hammer throw at the recent Australian junior youth championships was enough to be selected.

"I was pretty stoked to make the team but now I am a bit nervous, as it will be the first time competing overseas," he said.

"We were told to think about training at different times and in line with the Ukraine time zone and my coaches and I have agreed to do that, which will be interesting."

The St Dominic's College student threw a personal best distance of 71.35m recently.

But Kousparis is ready to train hard and throw over 72m in Ukraine.

"I will be doing four sessions a week of throwing, two gym sessions and two agility sessions, as well as two to three recovery sessions," he said.

"If I can get a personal best of 72m, I will be over the moon."
