Blue Mountains girls make water polo splash at state championships

FOUR Blue Mountains water polo players performed well as part of the Combined High Schools' Sydney West team recently.

FOUR Blue Mountains water polo players did their club proud after representing the Combined High Schools' Sydney West team recently.

Monique Green, of Werrington, Renay Vreeken, Madeleine Birt and Breanna Prisuda helped the Sydney West team finish fifth in the state titles.

Sydney West coach and Blue Mountains Water Polo secretary Aleasha Vreeken said the girls played exceptionally well.

"The girls did themselves and the club very proud," Vreeken said. "Madeleine in particular only plays in the local competition at Blue Mountains so to make this school representative team was fantastic.

"She really did step up and improved with everything she did."

Vreeken said that despite finishing fifth, the experience would lift the girls.

"It was a tough competition with other teams also having players from the weekend Sydney competition. The experience the girls have gained is invaluable."
