LONDON Paralympian Amanda Fowler has swept the floor to win the Penrith Press Junior Sports Star award.

LONDON Paralympian Amanda Fowler has swept the floor to win the Penrith Press Junior Sports Star award at last Wednesday's awards night at Waterview in Bicentennial Park.

Fowler, 15, of Blaxland, was the youngest girl in the S14 (intellectual impairment) 100m breaststroke final in London, finishing fifth.

Since joining Hurstville Aquatic Centre and now attending Endeavour Sports High School at Caringbah, Fowler has increased her training to get to the top.

"I have to wake up at 3am, which is really hard," she said.

"After training I go to school before going training again in the afternoon. I get home at about 8.30pm, so it is quite a long day.

"I want to get to the next Paralympics but my first aim is to get to the world championships in Montreal, Canada, this year."

Amanda's mother Kate thanked all involved for the awards.

"I'd like to thank everyone from the major sponsor Rebel to the Penrith Press for providing an opportunity for young athletes to be recognised," she said.

"It was a great night at a fantastic venue."

FAMILY DOUBLE

Jade Sweeney made it two out of two for her family after following in her brother Jack's footsteps in winning the Penrith Press Young Achiever Award.

Jade, 10, of South Penrith, was selected in the NSW national gymnastics development program. More impressive was her selection in the NSW Institute of Sport emerging talent Nippers diving squad after only starting the sport last year.
