Zane Crean and Joshua Catherall: dial-a-dealer pair sentenced for Bondi cocaine supply

A scaffolder caught with ‘12 bags of powder’ in his undies at Bondi Beach has been warned he could go to jail, along with his drug-dealing friend.

A dozen bags of cocaine hidden in the undies of one of two drug dealing roommates had left the threat of jail looming over their heads, a magistrate warned.

Police on a dial-a-dealer hunt in Sydney’s eastern suburbs busted 24-year-old Zane Crean and 20-year-old Joshua Catherall with 9.8g of cocaine and $1200 of suspected dirty cash in a car after seeing them make a drug deal at Bondi Beach.

According to facts tendered to Waverley Local Court, police approached Crean, an airconditioning worker, and his friend Catherall, a scaffolder, and searched their car to find 24 $50 notes and three $100 notes totalling $1500 in the centre console.

They found another two $50 notes near the gear stick. Crean admitted $1250 was from cocaine deals and that Catherall hands the drugs to him and he gives them to the buyers.

Both their phones had messages referencing drug deals, the facts read.

When police warned they were going to strip search the pair, Catherall told police he “had bags in his underwear and would like to give it to police,” according to the facts.

“Police found a clear plastic bag with 12 clear resealable bags with white powder” which tests later confirmed to be 9.8g of cocaine, including packaging.

The pair pleaded guilty to dealing cocaine and dealing with suspected proceeds of crime on Tuesday.

Magistrate Jacqueline Milledge told the pair — who lived together in the south Sydney suburb of Gymea before their arrest — the court would “have to figure out if it should send them to jail”.

They are due to be sentenced at Waverley Local Court on November 9.

As part of their bail conditions, they must not contact each other except via a lawyer.
