A young wannabe rapper who allegedly helped break into the home of a startled Bellevue Hill couple whose daughter the group claimed owed them money has fronted court on separate charges of taking a meat cleaver to Bondi Beach.
Thomas Panapong Callanan, aka Young Tommy C, appeared before Waverley Local Court last month charged with aggravated break and enter in company and stealing after the posse allegedly stormed into the eastern suburbs home on October 5 and demanding the $6000 debt be repaid.
The 22-year-old Bondi man and his co-accused Nathaniel Rogoyawa, 20, of Minto, Joshua Mataka, 20, of Lurnea and Shadrach Fine allegedly took off with the couples’ mobile phones and the husband’s wallet.
The police fact sheet states the four men were arrested about 15 minutes after they left the Bellevue Hill home at 3.45pm on October 5.
During a bail application for Mataka last month, Magistrate Ross Hudson heard Mataka’s role was considered “the most serious” as he was the one who allegedly smashed the window and made the demands for money.
Mataka was also on a Community Corrections Order at the time of the alleged offence.
Rogoyawa and Mataka, who both work at Allied Express Transport in Chullora, were also charged with drug possession after police allegedly found them with a small amount of cannabis.
Meanwhile on Tuesday Callanan, whose rap videoclip “The Message” has been viewed almost 50,000 times on YouTube, pleaded not guilty to separate charges of allegedly taking a meat cleaver to Bondi Beach and threatening a man as well as attempting to re-enter Hotel Bondi after he was kicked out.
The Bondi Beach incident allegedly occurred on September 29 at 10.30pm.
Callanan, a graduate of prestigious private Cranbrook School, was charged with custody of a knife in a public place, stalk or intimidate and attempting to re-enter a licensed premises after being excluded.
He will reappear in court on December 16 with regards to the alleged Bellevue Hill incident and December 22 with regards to the alleged Bondi Beach offences.
