IT was a clean sweep for North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club at the Local Sports Stars Awards and its no wonder with two young heroes who not only bring home competition glory but save lives as well.
Noah Havard, 18, was named the Wentworth Courier’s Individual Sports Star for a stellar year in the water which included winning gold in all five events he competed in at the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships.
Noah was joined as a Local Sports Star prize winner by fellow club member Saskia Roberts who took out the Sporting Spirit category.
“It was a really good night and there were a lot of talented people so I was very humbled to be at Local Sports Stars,” Noah said.
“I’ve just graduated from Waverley College — I’ve still got two exams to go in my HSC.
“Next year I’m hoping to keep up my surf life saving training while studying project management at UTS.
“When I’ve got time I want to go out on patrol, spend time at the club with the nippers and enjoy the sun.”
Saskia is already a seasoned surf life saving competitor rounding off last season with an impressive four gold medals at the NSW Age Championships. This made her not only the most successful athlete from North Bondi Surf Club but from the entire Sydney Branch.
What sets Saskia apart is the importance she places on team events despite her prowess as an individual competitor and her reputation of being both humble and determined.
The 2018 Local Sports Star gala awards dinner was held at Bankstown Sports Club on Tuesday.
