BETWEEN school work and playing for three different football teams, Roman Koteczky is a busy youngster.
The Bronte resident, 14, is this week’s Junior Sports Star nominee.
Roman started playing football at six years old, starting in left midfield and developing into a defensive player.
So far this year the Waverley College student has represented his school, local club Mascot Kings and captained the Eastern Suburbs Football Association representative team.
He helped the Kings win their division grand final against Redfern Raiders and led the district in the Football NSW regional conference competition.
Roman said at one point he was training four nights and playing three games a week.
“It was a lot of football to be playing but I really enjoyed getting out there,” he said.
“I love everything about the game, especially the adrenaline rush you get from going past a player or put a good tackle in.”
Roman said he was focused on improving all aspects of his game to get better as a player. “I want to play for as long as possible and see how far it can take me,” he said.
“It would be great to make a career out of something I love doing.”
Along with being a talented footballer, Roman’s father Zoltan said his son was a good student.
“He does his homework and has a happy social life with lots of friends,” he said. “He has performed in school productions, is in the school cadets and is very self driven.
“No professional player in the world would play and train this many games in a season and he does it all with a smile and good sportsmanship.”
