REMEMBER Holly Palmer’s name because you just might see her on television one day, wearing green and gold at the Paralympics.
The Bronte 11-year-old won two bronze medals at the recent Combined Independent Schools Swimming Carnival and is to be nominated as a Local Sports Star.
Holly was born with achondroplasia, a form of dwarfism, but she is not letting that get in the way of achieving her dreams.
“I started swimming when I was about five years old,” she said.
“It’s easier for me than other sports but it’s still a challenge.”
Holly met British Paralympian swimmer Ellie Simmonds, who also has achondroplasia, a few years ago and was immediately inspired by the gold medallist.
Holly just missed out competing at the next level in school swimming, PSSA, this year because of her times but she is hoping to get there next time.
She had been representing her school St Catherine’s but she also swims for Kincoppal-Rose Bay School where she trains.
Many have been inspired by her determination, including Scott Doble.
“As a result of her dogged desire to rise above her ‘minor issues’, as she refers to them, her swimming has steadily improved,” he wrote to the Wentworth Courier.
