Savannah Daisley: Smart Cleanse founder, horse breeder daughter, charged with child sex abuse

A popular naturopath from Sydney’s eastern suburbs and daughter of a renowned horse breeder has been charged with sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old child, as an alleged disturbing phone call is outlined in court.

What happens when you are charged with a crime?

Police allege a glamorous naturopath and Instagram influencer from Sydney’s eastern suburbs has had sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old child.

Savannah Daisley, a 45-year-old from Double Bay and founder of detox business Smart Cleanse, has been charged with four counts of the crime.

Daisley is the daughter of renowned horse breeder Ross Daisley.

Waverley Local Court heard Daisley intends to plead not guilty to all charges, as she was denied bail on Tuesday.

According to documents tendered to court, the alleged offences occurred in the 24 hours before 5pm May 20 last year.

Magistrate Jacqueline Milledge said the allegations were “quite disturbing”.

Daisley’s defence lawyer, Pierre de Dassel, said the facts showed her client was highly intoxicated but she strongly denied all charges.

“Your Honour, Ms Daisley intends to plead not guilty to all counts,” he told the court.

“This is an oath vs oath case.”

Mr de Dassel told the court the report against his client was made “in spite” and “there is motivation around the timing of it that really affects the credibility and strength of the case”.

The court heard Daisley’s father, Ross Daisley, was willing to pay $10,000 in bail.

Mr Daisley achieved fame as the breeder of thoroughbred racehorse Choisir, which became a champion across two hemispheres.

Choisir followed up Group1 success in Australia at England’s Royal Ascot carnival in 2003. Known as one of the greatest Sires in Australian breeding, Choisir died aged 22 last December.

Mr de Dassel said his client was prepared to report daily to police.

In opposing bail, prosecutor Daniel Richardson told the court the officer in charge of the investigation had informed him of a phone call between Daisley and the alleged victim in which she admitted to “at least kissing the young person, but has little recollection of the offending conduct”.

“But she says ‘I thought you were going to call the police on me, I thought we had placed this in a little box and thrown it deep into the sea,” Mr Richardson told the court.

“His instruction to me was the phone call was quite damning to her. The facts are that admissions were made that were captured on telephone intercept and it is a quite serious matter”.

Mr de Dassel said it was not the case that his client had no recollection of the alleged conduct but she had made a positive statement denying it.

Magistrate Milledge denied bail, saying the act governing bail in relation to these types of offences was “very, very firm”.

“I find there is a justification to keep you in custody. It’s a 14-year-old child,” Magistrate Milledge said.

Daisley’s Instagram has more than 40,000 followers. Her bio reads: “Naturopath & Coach. Health/beauty. Created the world’s only gut-focused, premium, organic, practitioner grade, detox kit Founder”.

The Smart Cleanse website says Daisley is the author of 14 Day Smart Cleanse, “the comprehensive instruction manual that accompanies the Detox Kit, and the author of an upcoming book based on ‘Epigenetics’ – the latest on health, and how stress and toxins have a detrimental effect on cell function and structure”.

“Over a number of years, Savannah has helped tens of thousands of people detoxify their bodies, lose weight, heal their digestion, improve strength and fitness, eliminate stress, reverse the ageing process, overcome various adverse health conditions through the benefits of detoxification, and is passionate about doing so,” the website reads.

Daisley has spoken openly about her struggles with alcohol use on her Instagram page.

Just two weeks ago, she wrote “223 DAYS ALCOHOL FREE”.

The post continued: “For those of you who know how tough it is to stop, I’ve been there. But stopping and letting go has been one of the best, most uplifting decisions I have ever made”.

“Have you thought about letting go of a habit that dims your light?”

The matter will return to Waverley Local Court on August 22.
