The results are in and our winner has been named as the best butcher in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, as voted by our readers. FIND OUT WHO THE WINNER IS.

The votes are in and the best butcher in Sydney’s eastern suburbs has been crowned.

Readers have voted, via our online poll, Double Bay butcher David McDowell the best in the business across the eastern suburbs.

Mr McDowell has owned and operated T&R Gourmet Butchery in Double Bay for 33 years and has become a well-known identity in the community, providing locals with everything from sausages to Christmas hams to marinated skewers.

“I know everybody. They call me the mayor,” he told the Wentworth Courier.

The hunt for the best butcher in the eastern suburbs is over.

“I have a lot of clientele and they are very loyal … I give them good meat and good service and they come back.”

He said he was absolutely rapt to receive the highest number of votes in our best butcher poll and said he could not thank his clients enough.

“I cannot thank them enough for their loyalty and how much I have enjoyed serving them for the last 33 years. It has been a real pleasure.

“I really enjoy talking to people and I have a great memory for names, I know them all.”

Mr McDowell’s parents were also butchers and he stated “I don’t know anything else but I love being the butcher”.

Mr McDowell – whose favourite cut of meat is a ribeye – said his five-strong team at T&R Gourmet Butchery had been off their feet preparing Christmas orders.

A bestseller this year has been a new Christmas ham recently added to the shop.

“I’ve made a new ham which is a boneless, small, half leg which I smoked in a small smoke house in Berry.

“They are about two to three kilograms and they are going off the richter.”

The butchery is located in the Cosmopolitan Shopping Centre in Double Bay.
