THE four-year fight to stop Bronte RSL from being overdeveloped has been won, with the site’s new owner confirming he is pushing forward with plans already approved by Waverley Council.
RDA Property Group owners Danny Avidan and Rafi Assouline were revealed to be the site’s mystery buyers last week, with the pair expected to start selling apartments off-the-plan in October.
A spokeswoman for Mr Avidan said the project would go ahead in accordance with what was approved in December last year, including 21 apartments and retail tenancies on the ground level.
Via the spokeswoman, Mr Avidan said RDA catered for today’s buyer’s needs, wants and desires for luxury apartment living on the coastline.
“The result will be a very up-market residential oasis, with some restaurants and bespoke cafes on the ground level,” he said.
“The entire development compliments the Bronte village atmosphere.”
Save Bronte spokesman Stephen Lightfoot said Mr Avidan’s comments had come after a long battle to keep the development in check.
“We welcome his statement that the RDA Property Group intends to uphold the community’s wishes by developing the Bronte RSL site as approved last year,” he said.
“Given our experience over the last four years, we welcome a developer who accepts the legitimacy of our community’s wishes and the appropriateness of the planning controls, and who promises to redevelop the site in compliance with the approved plans.”
The project comprises two one-bedroom units, 17 two-bedroom units and two three-bedroom units.
Fears the site would be overdeveloped were raised again earlier this year when former developer Winston Langley Burlington listed the property for sale with intent to lodge a new DA “for an additional seven units”.
RDA Property Group developed the Wave apartments in Tamarama and is building a 14-apartment complex called The Carlton at Vaucluse and 53 boutique residences at a site in Foveaux St, Surry Hills.
Mr Avidan is the former owner of high street fashion brands Charlie Brown and Howard Showers, which he has since sold.
