Fire crews and police were on scene at the Light Brigade Hotel in Woollahra after reports of a gas leak.
Fire and Rescue NSW say more than 30 people have been evacuated from the pub on the corner of Oxford St and Jersey Rd and two other buildings nearby.
The gas company was also assisting on scene.
A police officer on the scene said workers in Jersey Rd had struck a gas pipe but that the repairs had finalised and that there was no threat of danger to the public.
Fire crews who had taped off the entrance to Jersey Rd are now opening the street back up to pedestrians and will eventually allow vehicles through.
The three crew who responded to the incident have now left the scene.
