MODELS and health and fitness bloggers Steph Smith and Laura Henshaw are ambassadors for a new national campaign encouraging girls to get moving.
The creators of the health-focused website Keep It Cleane r are getting behind Girls Make Your Move, a free program designed to empower women to be more active and generate positive perceptions of fitness.
Smith says the Girls Make Your Move campaign is an incredible step forward into making young Australians fitter and healthier.
Henshaw says exercise should be fun and not a stressful situation that girls dread; “which is why events like this are great as everyone has so much fun they forget about the little things they usually worry about”.
Smith says the cost of gym classes or memberships can be a barrier to fitness but a space at home or a park is all you need.
She says mixing up her own exercise routine keeps her on track.
“I’ve found what exercises I enjoy and what works for my body and seeing physical and mental effects certainly keeps me motivated,” she says.
The fitness bloggers started their Keep It Cleaner website as a place to share healthy recipes, workouts and blog posts.
“Our recipes are based around balance, fun and nourishing your body,” Henshaw says.
“We love to make healthy versions of traditional unhealthy recipes.”
Smith says the Radical Rocky Road recipe is a hit.
“People just love it,” she says. “They don’t believe it’s healthy.”
Girls Make Your Move is a Federal Government push to inspire girls to find activities they enjoy.
The campaign has partnered with Parkrun Australia and is encouraging girls to sign up to their free weekly 5km runs.
