Police are looking what is believed to be an attempt to poison dogs in the eastern suburbs, with rat poison found hidden along a suburban street in Vaucluse on Wednesday.
The poison is not far from where a local vet said a mysterious toxin killed one pug and left four other dogs fighting for life last week.
The shock find was made by a local resident earlier today, with Woollahra Council reporting it to police believing it to be rat poison.
It comes just days after Rose Bay vet Adrian Simon warned residents to keep a close eye on their pooches, with five canines from within three streets in the exclusive suburbs all presenting with tremors and seizures.
One dog, a two-year-old pug, died as a result of ingesting a mystery substance.
Eastern Suburbs detectives are now probing today’s find on Towns Rd, Vaucluse after handfuls of the tablets were found strewn across a 75 metre section of the street.
“Police are urging members of the public to take extra care while walking their pets after a green substance believed to be poisonous was found in the eastern suburbs about 1pm today,” a police spokeswoman said.
“Police and (Woollahra) Council are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
Council has cleaned up some of the poison and is urging all dog owners in the area to keep their pets on leashes.
A local dog walker, who wished to be referred to as Darren, made the shock find.
“I’m very concerned, not only for the animals, but for little kids who walk around and could pick one up and eat it,” he said.
“It’s a major concern, you hear suggestions from some people that maybe it’s someone who is disgruntled about dogs poo-ing on their lawn but it doesn’t seem like someone who just put it in front of their house because it is all down the street.”
