POLICE were last night still hunting a man who stabbed a drinker in an up-market Bondi bar.
The incident happened in Hotel Ravesis, Campbell Parade, during the Socceroos match against France on Saturday night.
Police said it had nothing to with the game. Bar manager Ryan Powell told how the man lunged at the victim before walking out the building.
“We don’t think he is local, none of the staff recognised him,” he said. “It was all very casual. He was sitting at the table and then lunged at him a few times and then walked out.”
Eyewitnesses said the man used a butter knife, leaving his victim with injuries to his hands and chest.
“He put his hands up to block him and suffered some pretty good cuts. Thankfully he’s OK,” Mr Powell said.
In shock, the victim tried to walk home with blood pouring from his hands. Mr Powell tended to him while waiting for the paramedics.
The 35-year-old was taken to Sydney Eye Hospital. He has since been released.
“It is a one-off incident for us. The staff are OK and everyone seems in good spirits,” Mr Powell said.
Police want to speak with a man of caucasian appearance, around 175cm, of solid build and with a shaved head. Call 1800 333 000.
