A drink driving eastern suburbs mum who crashed while on the way to pick up her children from day care was nearly seven times over the legal limit.
Magistrate Greg Grogin slammed Bellevue Hill’s Malgorzata Kwoka, describing her resulting breath test result of 0.341 as one of the “highest readings I have ever seen”.
The 44-year-old had been drinking from 10am on September 19 when she crashed her Porsche Cayenne in the Double Bay Shopping Centre car park around 6pm, agreed facts stated.
She had been on the way to pick up her children, Waverley Local Court heard today, where she pleaded guilty.
Members of the public had to assist the mother of two out of her Porsche after she crashed into a parking ticket machine and two bollards while entering the car park where her children’s day care was located.
The agreed facts stated she had driven about 3.5km in peak hour traffic to the shopping centre.
She appeared briefly in court and Magistrate Greg Grogin remarked her breath analysis reading was “one of the highest readings I have ever seen”.
Her matter was adjourned for sentencing on Wednesday, November 20.
Her defence said, since the incident, she had been accepted into a clinic at Bronte and had also approached a psychologist.
The agreed facts stated she had been drinking red wine since about 10am that day.
“At the time of the offence the accused was on her way to pick up her two children from day care after driving approximately 3.5km in peak hour traffic to do so.”
She drove into the entry of the shopping centre on Kiaora Rd and hit two bollards and a ticket machine.
A witness came over and spoke to Ms Kwoka asking if she was okay.
“The accused was unable to verbally answer and instead just blankly stared at the witness.”
The witness asked her to remove the keys from the ignition and she was helped out of the passenger seat door, because of the angle of her vehicle.
“Police arrived at the scene to find the accused unsteady on her feet and eyes bloodshot.”
She told police she had only had two glasses of wine.
She failed a roadside breath test, was arrested and taken to Waverley Police Station where she returned a breath analysis of 0.341.
