A Sydney woman has denied assaulting two police officers and refusing to leave a popular eastern suburbs pub after an incident in which she allegedly became “quarrelsome”.
Laura Mc Colgan, 24, appeared in Waverley Local Court on Tuesday where she pleaded not guilty to four charges over the alleged incident.
She has pleaded not guilty to two counts of assaulting police, one count of common assault against another man, and failing to leave the Golden Sheaf in Double Bay after being excluded due to intoxication.
The Maroubra woman was apprehended in the early hours of May 25, with the three alleged assaults said to have occurred after she was asked to leave the Sheaf.
She appeared briefly before Magistrate Michael Barko, who urged her solicitor to consider their position.
“She should think long and hard about her plea,” Mr Barko said.
“(The police facts say) she was highly intoxicated, she was asked to leave, refused, became quarrelsome, police became involved and she continued her remonstrations.”
After the defence lawyer stated that the woman wished to plead not guilty, Mr Barko replied: “Well, she probably doesn’t remember much of the evening.”
“And a number of sober police officers and sober security guards will be asked to give evidence,” Mr Barko continued.
Mc Colgan’s bail was continued, and she will next appear before the Downing Centre Local Court on July 30 to reply to a brief of evidence to be produced by the prosecution.
