Kings Cross command welcomes in its new recruits from the academy
Five new probationary constables are settling into life at the Kings Cross command this week, as its detectives prepare to tackle an increase in thefts from vehicles in the suburbs, warning the public to stay vigilant as the weather warms up.

Five new probationary constables have joined the ranks at one of Sydney’s busiest police districts.
The Kings Cross Police Area Command oversees the city’s buzzing night-life precinct as well as the suburbs of Potts Point, Rushcutters Bay, Elizabeth Bay, Woolloomooloo and Darlinghurst in the east.
The group are now settling into life at the command after graduating the from the police academy in Goulburn last week, though work on the beat and a steep learning curve now awaits them.
“They join a proud and professional team of staff at Kings Cross who are well versed in coaching new recruits,” Kings Cross commander Paul Carrett said.
The 338 Class of officers includes 177 policemen and 92 policewomen who will complete a year of on-the-job training and study before being confirmed to the rank of constable.
“These new probationary constables joined their command on Monday after months of training away from their homes and families,” NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller said.
“I have no doubt that every day will prove both challenging and rewarding for these recruits as they begin their careers as police officers.”
The new cops in the Cross will join the PAC’s efforts as it attempts to crack down on car break-ins.
Police are warning the community to keep their vehicle locked after reporting a “slight increase” in things like laptops and personal items being stolen from cars parked in public areas.
Detectives are targeting known offenders for the offence as part of their strategy.
