A warehouse worker who was allegedly part of a posse including an up and coming rapper accused of storming a Bellevue Hill home might lose his legal representation.
Lurnea’s Joshua Mataka, 20, fronted Magistrate Robert Williams at Central Local Court on Tuesday (April 20) clad in a black hoodie.
The court heard Mataka, who was working at Allied Express Chullora at time of the alleged crime, could soon find himself unrepresented as there were issues with his Legal Aid application.
He is charged with aggravated break and enter in company and possessing cannabis.
“Bail is to continue and we will come back on May 4 to clarify that issue with regards to Legal Aid, otherwise it will be for committal,” Magistrate Williams said.
During Mataka’s bail application in October before Waverley Local Court’s Magistrate Ross Hudson, police alleged the group forced their way into the family home and stole phones and a wallet after declaring the occupant’s daughter owed them $6000.
“This gentleman’s role was a bit more serious,” said Magistrate Hudson reading from the police fact sheet.
“He’s the one who smashes the window and demands the money.”
The cases of co-accused Thomas Panapong Callanan aka Bondi rapper Young Tommy C, Shadrach Fine who is on remand at Bathurst Correctional Centre and Minto’s Nathaniel Rogoyawa, 20, were also dealt with.
The baby faced rapper who appeared in the court dressed in a dark suit, Fine who wore blue/grey prison garb with his hair neatly tied back on videolink and Rogoyawa - a fellow Allied Express worker who was excused from appearing - were all adjourned to June 15 for committal.
