An eastern suburbs man has been handed a 13-year jail term over a series of cocaine shipments from the United States in 2015.
Jonathan Fagan, who called the affluent suburb of Double Bay home prior to his arrest, was caught up in a joint NSW Police and FBI sting that netted high profile American drug kingpin Owen Hanson in 2016.
As part of the sentence handed down in the District Court last week, Fagan will be eligible for parole in December 2023 after entering a guilty plea to the four drug trafficking charges and one of dealing with proceeds of crime.
The criminal syndicate operated by Hanson from his California base unravelled ties all the way down under after he himself pleaded guilty in a San Diego court.
That was the first domino to fall, setting off a sensational series of events that saw a number of key players in the cocaine trafficking enterprise arrested in NSW.
Fagan’s involvement was uncovered after evidence from US authorities indicated the 16 shipments of cocaine he received were sent by the American drug baron.
Documents previously tendered to the court estimated the packages weight as 160kg.
Hanson, a former college football star, is now serving a 21-year sentence after his conviction two years ago.
