One of the NRLW’s superstar players has been caught up in a family drama, with police officers applying for a court order to protect her.

An apprehended domestic violence order has been taken out to protect World Cup-winning Jillaroo and Sydney Roosters premiership-winning centre Jessica Sergis from her mother Jenny.

According to court records, a provisional order was made for Sergis on January 20. No criminal charges have been laid.

High-profile lawyer Paul McGirr – whose firm is representing Jenny Sergis but also assisting all parties – said it was “a very sensitive matter”.

“We are working our way through it – at this stage it’s contested and that’s all we will say at this stage,” he said.

The orders of the AVO include that Jenny Sergis must not “assault or threaten”, “stalk, harass or intimidate”, or “intentionally destroy any property” belonging to her daughter.

She also “must not approach or be in the company of Jessica for at least 12 hours after drinking alcohol or taking illicit drugs”.

Sergis, who won Dally M Player of the Year back in 2019, has become a prolific figure in women’s rugby league, featuring on multiple occasions for both state and country.

The 25-year-old was part of the Jillaroos side who thrashed New Zealand 54-4 in the 2021 World Cup in the United Kingdom.

Jessica Sergis was also part of the St George Illawarra Dragons’ 30-6 defeat in the NRLW’s second professional grand final.

Having garnered more than 90,000 followers on Instagram, Jessica Sergis has quickly become one of the lead face’s of women’s rugby league.

The AVO is set to be heard in Waverley Local Court next Thursday.

NSW Police declined to comment on the matter.
