TIPS TO GET STARTED WHEN DECORATING A SPACE
Embarking on a design project can be overwhelming. Although I generally believe in decorating your home with the things you love, sometimes combining too many elements can look chaotic and will not have any balance or harmony. Taking the time to plan helps — the most beautiful homes are considered and layered. Don’t rush it, and enjoy the process of creating a space you will love spending time in whether on your own or entertaining friends.
FIND YOUR STYLE
The first step is to collect a few images from either a magazine or Pinterest that represent the look and feel of the space you are trying to create. These images are great for inspiring ideas for colour schemes and furniture.
MOOD BOARD
A mood board is essentially a collage that helps you visualise all the elements you intend to put in the space on one page. It helps ensure that everything works together and helps you recognise what the space is missing. To create a mood board there are apps like Bazaart or Canva, or you could use computer software such as Photoshop.
Or keep it super simple and do it the old-school way, using cut out images of furniture pieces, rugs, decorative accessories etc and lay them out onto a board. Use the mood board as a reference throughout the process, to stay on the right track.

PAINT SWATCHES
When deciding what colour to paint head down to your local hardware store and pick a few colour samples to compare. Once you have narrowed it down to two options buy sample pots. If possible paint a generous part of the wall or paint an A1 foam core board. Now you will be able to see how the colour looks once dried before painting the entire space.
