Diners could soon be able to watch the sun set across Bondi and then stare up at the stars on what must surely be one of Sydney’s most spectacular terraces.

Bosses at Icebergs Dining Room and Bar have spent their days of self isolation cooking up some exciting changes in the form of a development application.

The Bondi institution submitted the application to Waverley Council earlier this month to shake things up on its southern terrace.

The application is actually a modification of a $1.3 million DA they had approved way back in 2015.

The proposal outlines plans to construct a new bar, toilets and roof on the terrace and allow patrons to stay out there until 10pm year round.

Currently, diners at the fine dining Italian restaurant have to be off the terrace by 8pm during daylight savings and 6pm at other times of the year.

They’re also asking for an increase from 60 to 75 patrons to be allowed on the terrace and for them to be allowed to consume alcohol while standing as opposed to only when seated.

Icebergs has also signalled they would like to be allowed to play music on the terrace with prior council approval.

Documents submitted to Waverley Council state the modifications should have only a “minimum disruption to neighbours”.

“As a consequence of the operational changes, it is proposed to enclose a portion of the southern terrace to maintain acoustic privacy and to provide shelter for patrons,” the documents read.

“The minor changes are required to allow the iconic venue to function at its highest potential by offering improved amenity for patrons.”

Icebergs has signalled in the documents the changes are being brought about in order to host an “occasional cocktail event”.

Other measures were outlined to reduce disruption to residential neighbours.

“Importantly, from 9pm patrons will be ushered out of the main front entrance of the site to reduce potential noise impacts on surrounding development,” the documents state.

“All vehicles to pick up patrons of the venue will also be held at the front entrance to reduce noise generation.”
