THE demolition of eastern suburbs homes to make way for units has escalated.
In the works are proposals to knock down two Bellevue Hill properties to make way for 19 apartments, and six Vaucluse addresses for a block of 16. The bulldozing of 142 Bellevue Rd happened in April and neighbouring 142A could have the same fate according to documents put before Woollahra council late last month.
The four level $8.7 million project includes six units designated as affordable rentals which must only be tenanted to low income families for the first decade after they are built. The affordable housing will be separated from the main development by a 10m communal open space.
Orosi Architects designed the block on the 1940m square site for their client Mr H Samavi. Of the 17 trees on the site, 12 will be replaced by 11 established trees. Those preserved will include a weeping fig.
The proposed development includes basement parking for 42 cars.
The site is “ideal for higher density development” as it is close to open spaces, transport and businesses such as the Double Bay precinct, the DA says.
In Vaucluse, five homes at 671 to 679 Old South Head Rd could become 16 three-bedroom units in a $21.3 million project under the DA lodged on Thursday last week.
“This will help meet demand for housing in the area and provide a social benefit. The provision of three bedroom units is likely to particularly appeal to families,” supporting documents state.
But the plans submitted to Waverley council for the four storey building with 35 carparks display no communal space on the 2680m squ site, despite a regulated 15 per cent minimum.
