A Redfern consultant was caught driving more than four times over the legal alcohol limit in Sydney.
Emma Luisa Sciara, 29, appeared before Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday December 15 after pleading guilty to high-range drink driving in November.
According to police documents, Sciara was pulled over by police on Telopea St, Redfern at 8.20pm on Saturday November 12 for the purpose of roadside testing.
“Police approached the vehicle and observed the accused to be seated in the driver's seat of the vehicle,” police facts state.
“Police also observed two other adult passengers in the vehicle.
“Police immediately smelt a strong scent of alcohol emitting from the accused. The accused was submitted to a roadside breath test which returned a positive result.”
Ms Sciara was arrested and taken to a police RBT bus in Rushcutters Bay where a breath test returned a reading of 0.214.
“In relation to the accused consumption of alcohol she stated that she had consumed four glasses of white wine between 6pm and 8pm,” the police facts state.
“The accused also stated she had a meal prior to attending the location and consumed some ‘snacks’ while consuming the alcohol.
“The accused was observed to have watery glazed eyes with enlarge pupils, slurred speech and to be in a talkative mood, often crying while in the presents (sic) of police.”
In court, Magistrate Susan Horan said that a full sentencing assessment report will be required to help determine an appropriate sentence for Ms Sciara.
“I accept that the driving record is exemplary,” Magistrate Horan said.
“But I think a report is required.”
Ms Sciara will appear before court again in early 2023 for sentencing.
