The COVID-19 lockdowns sweeping across Greater Sydney have claimed another victim — with a popular inner-city wine bar and eatery falling into liquidation.
KPMG liquidators Philip Quinlan and Glenn Livingstone have been appointed to wind up the business behind Eliza Food and Wine at 247 Victoria St, Darlinghurst, after the restaurant closed its doors on June 25.
Mr Quinlan said the COVID-19 lockdowns were the final nail in the coffin for the popular venue’s fate and the business — Project Empire Pty Ltd.
“KPMG was appointed as liquidators last Friday,” Mr Quinlan said. “The loss of revenue from the latest lockdown resulted in the financial situation the restaurant is in.
“It is particularly tough for restaurants and cafes at the moment, they still have big bills coming in without the income.”
Mr Quinlan said a review of creditors and possible money owed would be conducted by KPMG.
ASIC revealed KPMG were appointed as liquidators for the failed business on July 5.
Eliza Food and Wine was contacted for comment.
