Elena Bobolas fronts court over alleged assault of Bondi hoarder mum
Things have spiralled out of control at a bail application for Elena Bobolas who allegedly assaulted her elderly mum Mary, the notorious Bondi hoarder, after a family feud spilled over in the affluent suburb overnight.
Chaos has erupted at the Waverley Local Court after notorious Bondi hoarder Mary Bobolas was allegedly assaulted by her daughter Elena overnight.
Court documents indicate Bobolas, 42, who is charged with common assault, allegedly assaulted her elderly mother, Mary, just after midnight on Wednesday.
“Things are going pear-shaped now,” her solicitor, Matthew Lorkin, said during one of Bobolas’ numerous interruptions at the bail application.
Things further spiralled out of control when Bobolas’ older sister Liana interjected from the public gallery numerous times proclaiming “can my sister stop being gagged please in the interests of justice”.
Magistrate Greg Grogin then ejected her from the court.
The court heard police picked up Bobolas after what solicitor Mr Lorkin described as “quite a confronting situation for all” in Bondi during the early hours of the morning.
“She has probably failed the attitude test and that is why she is here … it is her mother,” he said.
“She will plead not guilty … she has never assaulted her mother before.”
The family has been locked in a decades-long stand-off with Waverley Council over mounds of rubbish being hoarded at their home, which is visible from Google Earth.
Council has been removing rubbish from the property owned by family matriarch Mary since 2005, costing the Bobolas’ hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Last November the family home was saved from being auctioned off with just days to go after a number of bills were paid.
When court resumed, Elena Bobolas continued to interrupt her own solicitor and Magistrate Grogin from the dock, claiming her legal representative had not mentioned certain aspects she wished to submit to the court.
“I am considering bail but I haven’t made a decision yet, are you sure you want to address me,” Magistrate Grogin asked.
“Yes,” Bobolas replied.
Magistrate Grogin granted Bobolas bail before another bizarre turn of events which saw the Bondi woman refuse a condition she not assault or harass her mother.
Bail was then refused and Bobolas was remanded in custody, claiming she was being forcibly removed as she was led away from the court.
Magistrate Grogin indicated he would still consider another bail application later in the day and when Bobalas returned to the dock about an hour later she consented to the bail condition.
Her case has been adjourned to be heard back in the same court next month.
