A Sydney drug dealer was just “with a mate” when he was peddling cocaine around Oxford St, court documents state.

Daniel Nuumalii, 20, was sentenced in the Downing Centre Local Court last Thursday on a raft of drugs charges after cops busted him with an indictable amount of cocaine in his Hyundai Tuscon.

The police statement of facts state the Mt Druitt care worker was on the popular strip in Paddington when detectives spotted a man entering his car.

After doing a lap of nearby streets, the man was no longer in the car and spotted further down the street with two bags of cocaine he said he just picked up for “$300 each”, according to documents tendered to court.

A search Nuumalii’s Hyundai located nine bags of cocaine containing 6.3g of the drug hidden in a chewing gum packet, a steak knife and two mobile phones – one of which was navigating him to Bondi Junction.

Court documents reveal Nuumalii told officers the customer was “just a mate” and denied selling cocaine when interviewed at Surry Hills police station last December.

A total of $3850 cash was also found in his car.

After pleading guilty to two counts of supplying cocaine, one count of dealing with proceeds of crime and possessing a knife, Magistrate Erin Kennedy said Nuumalii “had a calling” as a care worker and a strong family unit behind him.

“You got yourself caught up in something foolish and we see people like you used by drug suppliers often,” Magistrate Kennedy said.

“Low level supplying like this, you get used and left to take the consequences.

“I wonder if the gambling was an inspiration to do this.”

Nuumalii, who the court heard is in custody on unrelated charges, was sentenced to a two-year community corrections order for all of the offences.
