Cheese lovers coming closer to home
THE annual Kurrajong Kitchens Cheese Lovers Festival has moved to Centennial Park’s Brazilian Fields, after being held in the Hunter Valley in previous years. The one-day festival features 50 stalls of cheese, wine, beer and condiments, including a vegan cheese stall and one selling frozen cheesecake on a stick. There are also free (and ticketed) workshops from TV foodie Justine Schofield, and Ben Hughes from the Australian Beer and Wine School, as well as kids entertainment with cow milking and butter making, and live music. Saturday June 16, Centennial Park, Paddington, $30 (kids under 12 free), cheeseloversfestival.com.au
Go for a spin
EVERY Thursday actor, DJ and Bondi local Alex Dimitriades (under the moniker BoogieMonster) hosts the Bondi Funk & Soul Social Club from 6pm, at Bondi Beach Public Bar. Try the $10 squish burger with $5 beers, or the bar’s selection of natural wines. 108 Campbell Pde, Bondi Beach, bbpb.com.au
Steak your claim
Tuesday lunchtime (noon-3pm) and Friday evenings (5pm-late), The Wool & Wheat Bar at The Royal Exchange is offering a free rump steak and chips, when you buy two drinks. Salad and sauce are $1 extra each, and the only catch is becoming a member of the Royal Exchange, which will set you back another $2. 1 Gresham St, City, royalexchange.com.au
The Sauce Depot
IN 2010, sisters-in-laws Olivia Broomhead and Sally Flannery started making chutney in their Woollahra and Clovelly kitchens, and formed The Sauce Depot. Next came their tomato sauce, beetroot relish, and a swag of awards at the Royal Sydney Fine Food Show. Stocked at Harris Farm, Peters Meats, Queen Street Deli and Paddington Alimentari, thesaucedepot.com
