Waverley Council has just launched a new half price overnight permit for a secure carpark which is currently under utilised despite its central location.
Bondi Junction residents despair on the daily the lack street parking in their increasingly jam packed suburb.
However the council owned Hollywood Ave carpark near Westfield frequently sits near empty overnight.
A monthly pass to the carpark is $280 but from now onwards for residents who are able to enter at 5pm and leave again by 9am the pass will only cost $140.
This is also substantially cheaper than the $300 monthly fee for the nearby Waverley Library carpark.
Mayor of Waverley, Paula Masselos, said the new pass should both help out residents and make existing off-street parking more accessible.
“This is a great way to utilise the parking spaces that the Council provides and will help fill a gap for residents who don’t have access to private off-street parking,” Mayor Masselos said.
"We know that on-street parking is in high demand across our LGA due to the sheer number of people who live, work and visit our area. By providing access to off-street overnight parking, we are also helping free-up parking for residents in surrounding streets.”
The Waverley council area is notoriously difficult to find street parking in with not only cars but boat trailers occupying available spaces.
Council has responded to the concerns of residents in recent years by removing the fee for the first residential parking permit for those without any private parking and also introducing 27 free 15 minute drop in zones in commercial areas.
