A BONDI man has beaten the odds and won division one lotto twice in five days taking home almost $2.5 million.
The man, aged in his 40s, won just over $1 million in last Monday’s draw after buying a System 11 ticket at Bondi Sixway News on Hall St.
Buoyed by his good fortune, he went back to the same newsagency and bought a System 10 entry in Saturday night’s draw and won again, this time netting more than $1.4 million.
The odds of winning a division one lotto prize with a single entry are 8,145,060 to one.
With the system entries you considerably increase your chances but a double win in such a short period of time is so mind bogglingly unlikely it is believed to be unprecedented in Australia.
When speaking with a NSW Lotteries official to confirm his win, the Bondi local was in disbelief.
“I wish I had some advice to others on how to win the lottery but I don’t — God has just looked after me,” the lucky winner said.
The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, originally said he wished to invest his winnings in property at Bondi Beach.
Fortunately for him the median house price of Bondi Beach is a cool $2.5 million meaning he’ll be living mortgage free.
“As I said the other day when I won, I’m not going to be stupid with it and I still plan to invest it wisely in real estate but I guess I’m now more financially secure,” he said.
“I’ll still hope to buy something in Bondi or maybe on the Gold Coast.
“A holiday to Honolulu goes without saying.
“I did treat myself to a nice brand new car though but the rest I will be sensible with definitely.”
Bondi Sixway News employee Naz Nsairat said he is thrilled at the turn of events.
“I can’t believe it! We are so excited one of our customers has won twice!” he said.
“We hope the luck rubs off on some of our other customers!”
