This Cronulla cult favourite has moved north to the delight of foodies in the east.

The eastern suburbs co-founder of Cronulla dining institution Blackwood Pantry has finally realised his dream of opening a restaurant in his own backyard – and in true Bondi style it’s even bigger and better than the original.

Blackwood Bondi opened in the Seven Ways Ways precinct on Glenayr Ave last week.

The original Blackwood – which was so heavily patronised by Australia’s most famous YouTube star Sarah’s Day they named a dish after her – is a breakfast and lunch only establishment.

However the Bondi offering is open Sunday to Wednesday 7am – 4pm and Thursday to Saturday 7am – late.

Co-owner Daniel Sorridimi of Rose Bay launched the venture together with mate Paul Pisani and Michelin star trained executive chef Robert Lechowicz.

Mr Sorridimi, who is married to well-known eastern suburbs nutritionist Stephanie Malouf, said they’d worked hard to get the balance right between health conscious options and innovative dishes.

The blackcurrant and lavender yoghurt gets Ms Malouf’s tick of approval as does the curry roasted cauliflower.

“The Chargrilled Split Prawns and Pecorino-crumbed Veal Cotoletta are both amazing and the Moreton Bay bug Roll is a standout,” Mr Sorridimi said.

“We’re trying to push that elevated experience but still keep things casual.

“We are serving amazing food but at the same time you can walk in from a day at the beach or bring the kids and let them run around the park while you enjoy a cocktail.”

The cocktail list was put together by The Rocks cocktail bar Maybe Sammy’s Vince Lombardo and the restaurant’s Mediterranean inspired interiors are by Richards Stanisich – the designers also responsible for Hotel Rose Bay.
