A former Scots college schoolboy who was infamously stabbed by his mother in their eastern suburbs mansion has been caught sneaking into a gym and stealing.

Hugo Ball appeared at Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday where he pleaded guilty to two separate sets of charges including larceny, entering enclosed land without lawful excuse, behaving in an offensive manner in public and possessing a prohibited drug.

The now 27-year-old made headlines in 2021 when he was stabbed in the back by his mother in their Bellevue Hill home.

Ball almost died after losing two litres of blood as a result of the wound inflicted by a butcher’s knife.

His mother Samantha Palmer was sentenced to a 17-month intensive corrections order after pleading guilty to one count of reckless wounding.

A previous court in Palmer’s matter was told she was battling PTSD allegedly caused by threats, intimidation and assaults from her son, who it was claimed was heavily addicted to ice at the time of offending.

Sentencing Magistrate Erin Kennedy remarked while Palmer was guilty of a “hideous event”, the offending was reflective of a “family in crisis” brought on by mental illness and addiction.

Four years on Ball is reportedly still using ice, as alleged in a copy of police facts tendered to the court after he was arrested twice this year.

Police facts state around 9.30pm on March 6, Ball was involved in a scuffle with a passer-by in Kings Cross after he was denied entry into Showgirls and Kings Tavern for being intoxicated.

Ball and the man first crossed paths in McDonalds, where an argument broke out.

Their paths crossed again outside the strip club Sydney Elements, where the heated exchange continued and Ball “began to square up” to fight the man, agreed facts state.

Ball stated “lets go, let’s fight” before unsuccessfully attempting to kick the victim, with security guards quickly intervening and calling police.

Police observed Ball appeared to be intoxicated by drugs. He was placed in handcuffs with a general search uncovering a small bag of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

During a separate incident in April, Ball was caught sneaking into Anytime Fitness in Potts Point, where he was captured on CCTV rifling through the lockers and belongings of gym goers.

Agreed facts state around 12pm on May 23, Ball entered the gym by following an employee.

Once inside, Ball made his way to the locker room where he rummaged through multiple pigeon holes, taking various items of property, including a wallet and a phone.

He also took a black cap from someone’s locker, which he then placed on his head before leaving the gym, according to facts.

On Wednesday, Ball was supported by a caseworker with the court hearing he intended to have the charges dismissed on mental health grounds.

His solicitor asked for an adjournment to obtain a treatment plan, and for Ball to continue in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program.

Ball will remain on bail and return to Downing Centre Local Court on August 29.
