A man going by the same name as the 45th American president Donald Trump has called the withdrawal of an assault charge tabled against him a “gigantic success” before labelling the allegation a “witch hunt”.
Dressed in the former American president’s famous navy suit and red tie, Mr Trump was also seen wearing orange makeup after he had an assault occasioning actual bodily harm charge withdrawn at Downing Centre Local Court on Monday.
Police alleged the man, who claims he was named Donald Trump at “birth” assaulted a woman, causing “actual bodily harm” between 10.40pm and 10.55pm on May 6 last year in Surry Hills.
He was apprehended only minutes later.
After the charge was formally withdrawn before Magistrate Miranda Moody, Mr Trump spoke about the alleged incident, saying “his “ID … was stolen” and he was then charged.
“It’s a disgrace to our country, I’m innocent, I have just won the case,” Mr Trump said.
“I always win, everybody knows the Trumps always win.”
“All I did, think of this, I put my hand on my beautiful ID because who doesn’t want to have a Trump ID right, I love my Trump ID,” he said.
“I grab it and the police charge me with [assault occasioning actual] bodily harm … who does this, this is a communist state, it’s a witch hunt, they’re trying to get me. Today was a gigantic success.”
Mr Trump thanked his lawyer Sophie Toomey who “knew that I was innocent” before declaring there wasn’t anyone “as good as she is”.
He then went on to criticise the Australian Prime Minister who “doesn’t question police motives”.
“We have police who have no idea what they are doing … charging innocent people,” Mr Trump said.
“The police should never have charged Donald J Trump … this case should never have happened … this is a win for me, it was a win for the Australian people.”
