Alexander Phillips: PPD real estate agent’s Vaucluse home plan

It’s already a home fit for a king on one of Sydney’s most exclusive streets. But Australia’s top agent is set to knock down this multimillion-dollar stunner for something even more spectacular.

Alexander Phillips has sold some of the most expensive trophy homes in the country and now he has unveiled the plans for his very own stunning mansion.

Mr Phillips of PPD Real Estate, who has held the coveted title of the number one sales agent in Australia for six years running, has lodged plans with Woollahra Council to build an $8 million mansion on Vaucluse’s exclusive Coolong Road.

The gun agent bought the property, which already boasts an impeccable five bedroom home, for around $11 million in 2018 from David Mulham and his wife Clare – the daughter of rich listers Bill and Imelda Roche who formerly owned make-up giant Nutrimetics.

Mr Phillips plans to demolish the current residence and replace it with a new three-storey, four-bedroom home with basement parking and a pool.

“We bought into that street, and I believe it’s one of the best streets in Australia, because we wanted to be as close to the beach as possible – it’s only 100 steps away,” Mr Phillips said.

“That house will be our absolute forever family home.”

The new home is designed by renowned architects Tobias Partners.

Mr Phillips and his family have only lived in the existing home for the last few months after their tenant moved out and the stay almost made them rethink demolishing the stunning Moroccan and African inspired property.

“I see Nick Tobias and John Richards as among the best, if not the best, architects in Australia and that’s why we selected them to work with us on this unique high end street,” Mr Phillips said.

“(The current property) is a lovely home – there’s just a few things we want to change such as adding basement parking that mean you essentially need to start again.

“But then again after living there a few months, it did almost make us change our minds about keeping the house.”

So what’s his favourite aspect of his dream home? Like any good agent, Mr Phillips said it’s all about the location.

“The number one most important aspect, just like when I’m selling any house, is lifestyle. For us, we wanted to be on the beach,” Mr Phillips said.

“The house is important to us of course, but it’s the lifestyle of being able to throw a towel on the sand within thirty seconds of leaving home.”

Hollywood star Julia Roberts has spent the past few weeks living in a neighbouring property on Coolong Road to complete her quarantine prior to filming her latest movie with George Clooney.

The street is also home to Menulog founder Leon Kamenev and Meriton king Harry Triguboff.

The Phillips family plan to return to their Paddington terrace for the duration of construction.
