Teen accused of sexually touching woman, 84, at Riverina Gums Retirement Village

A 17-year-old boy is accused of breaking into an aged care residence, where he allegedly sexually touched an elderly woman before fleeing with her handbag in the Riverina.

A 17-year-old boy is before Wagga Children’s Court after he allegedly broke into an aged care home and “felt up” an 84-year-old woman before taking off with her handbag at the Riverina Gums Retirement Village at Glenfield Park.

Police arrested the teen over two alleged aggravated break and enters at homes in the state’s Riverina this week.

About 12.30am on Tuesday, police were told a male broke into a home at the Dalman Parkway retirement village and entered the elderly woman’s bedroom.

Police allege she was sexually touched.

She allegedly screamed and the male fled after allegedly taking her handbag.

Officers from Riverina Police District were notified and established a crime scene.

Shortly after, about 1.20am, a male entered a home on Elora Place, Glenfield Park, and allegedly stole a handbag containing a purse, credit cards, cash and personal documents.

Police will be allege in court that he also took car keys and a cup and saucer.

The resident – a woman aged 86 – woke to find her home had been broken into and contacted police.

Police started an investigation into both incidents, which are believed to be linked.

Following inquiries, about 5.45pm on Tuesday, police attended a home on Madang St, Ashmont, and arrested a 17-year-old boy.

Officers seized credit cards and clothes.

The teen was taken to Wagga Wagga police station where he was charged with two counts of break, enter and steal, and one count of sexual touching.

He was refused bail and appeared before a children’s court on Wednesday.
