Padman Park fire: Man charged, to face Albury Court after grass fire

A man is set to front court following his alleged involvement in a grass fire in the state’s south on Sunday. Here’s the latest.

A man is set to front court following suspicions he was involved with a bushfire which ravaged a southern NSW park overnight.

Emergency services were called to Padman Park near Padman Dr, Albury, about 9.30pm on Sunday, after reports of a fast-spreading grass fire.

Fire and Rescue attended in a bid to extinguish the fire, which spread through the parkland towards nearby dwellings.

Emergency services extinguished the fire, with no damage to any surrounding structures.

Following inquiries, a 62-year-old man was arrested and taken to Albury Police Station where he was charged with intentionally causing fire and being reckless as to its spread.

He was refused bail and will appear at Albury Local Court on Monday.
