Murray Police District charge man and woman over alleged stolen credit cards and car theft

A man and woman have been charged after the alleged theft of credit cards and a car in the southern Riverina. Here’s what police found.

A Wodonga man and a Chiltern woman have been charged over alleged theft offences, after a car was stolen in the region earlier in the week.

According to Murray River Police District, a Holden Captiva station wagon was stolen from a home on Alison Court, Albury, sometime after 4pm on Monday June 13.

Officers attached to the district’s Proactive Crime Team started investigating the incident, allegedly locating the stolen vehicle at the Volt Lane car park in Albury about 7am on June 15.

After further inquiries, they attended a nearby hotel on Smollett Street, just before 12.20pm that day, and seized a small quantity of methylamphetamine, $1150 cash, a laser pointer, and identification and credit cards believed to have been stolen, as well as clothing relevant to the investigation.

Police also seized number plates used to obscure vehicle plates from detection and cameras.

According to a NSW Police spokesman, “officers were able to track the car using the CCTV footage from the hotel to the car park and it helped with ongoing investigations into the two people”.

A man, 25 and woman, 31, were arrested at the scene and taken to Albury Police Station.

The man was charged with five offences including drive conveyance without consent of owner, property theft, possessing a prohibited drug, goods suspected stolen in/on premises and deal with property proceeds of crime.

The woman was charged with possessing a prohibited drug and goods suspected stolen in/on premises.

Both were granted conditional bail and will appear at Albury Local Court on Wednesday July 13.
