A woman has been charged over the alleged stabbing of a man who was found lying in his front lawn with stab wounds to his back, shoulder, stomach and torso in the early hours of the morning.
Emergency services rushed to Karoom Drive, at Glenfield Park, about 1.30am on Thursday to reports a man had been stabbed.
Riverina Police found a 58-year-old man, believed to be from Narrandera, on the front lawn of his home with multiple stab wounds.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man at the scene before he was taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital in a critical condition to undergo surgery.
Police established two crime scenes at two homes and investigated the circumstances surrounding the incident under Strike Force Kardina.
Investigations led police to the arrest of a 37-year-old woman who was stopped in a taxi on the Sturt Hwy at Galore about 10.10pm Thursday.
It will be alleged in court the woman bit the arm of a male police officer during the arrest.
She was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station and charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm.
The Glenfield Park woman will face Wagga Wagga Local Court on Friday.
Riverina Ambulance district manager Eamonn Purcell said paramedics were confronted with an emotional and frantic scene.
“When paramedics arrived they found a male who was 58 years old who had been stabbed six times in the back, shoulder, torso and abdomen,” Mr Purcell said.
“He was in a very serious condition with significant bleeding on scene, paramedics did what they were trained to do and stabilised the bleeding and got him to hospital very quickly.
“Police were on scene when paramedics got there and they said the scene was quite an emotional one, it was a fairly frantic scene when paramedics arrived.
“We aren’t sure of the circumstances of how he got stabbed or who did it but he was certainly in a very serious condition when paramedics arrived.”
Two homes were taped off on Thursday morning with police vehicles parked in the street as officers investigated.
Officers were seen leaving the home with brown evidence bags and speaking to neighbours.
Neighbours told The Wagga News they had barely seen the occupants of the homes.
“They are very secretive and never come out of the house,” one neighbour said.
Another said: “They barely left the house, I rarely saw the occupants, just saw all bottles left lying around.” =
