Jeffrey Malcolm charged with assaulting police officer, failing to appear in court after Lloyd car fire investigation

A man has been charged with assaulting a police officer and failing to appear in court after a police investigation into a ute fire near Wagga Wagga.

A man has been charged with assaulting a police officer and failing to appear in court after a police investigation into a ute fire near Wagga Wagga.

Emergency services were called to reports of a car fire on Hollows Cres, Lloyd about 7.40am on Thursday, where they found a utility well alight.

The blaze was extinguished by firefighters with no reports of injuries, but the fire was deemed suspicious.

Later, at 10.55am, officers searched a home on the same street and seized a stash of weapons – including multiple machetes, knuckledusters and a taser – as well as a trail bike, Subaru sedan, jewellery, multiple e-scooters and 100g of marijuana.

Police arrested 46-year-old Jeffrey Malcolm on an outstanding warrant and he was taken to Wagga Wagga police station.

He was charged with assaulting a police officer and failing to appear in court.

Malcolm was denied police bail and faced Wagga Wagga Local Court on Friday, where he was granted conditional bail.

He is next expected to face court on April 15.

Police are continuing to investigate the car fire and urge anyone with information to contact Wagga Wagga police or crime stoppers.
