An abattoir factory worker has suffered significant injuries to his legs after he was trapped in an industrial meat auger in Young.
A man in his 30s is in a serious yet stable condition after being trapped in grinder for more than two and a half hours.
NSW Ambulance paramedics responded to reports of a man trapped in machinery at Hilltop Meats about 9.30am on Wednesday.
Two ambulance crews , the Toll Ambulance Rescue Helicopter - with a critical care paramedic and a doctor on board - also responded.
The patient was intubated and placed in an induced coma by the specialist medical team from the Toll Ambulance Rescue helicopter.
He was transported via helicopter to the Canberra Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
NSW Ambulance Inspector, Stephen Pollard, said ambulance crews worked closely with Fire and Rescue to get the man out safely.
“It must have been really hard for the patient who was in a fair bit of pain before paramedics arrived,” Insp Pollards said.
“We gave him some relief and then began the task of getting him free.
“It was a particularly delicate and protracted incident to free the man from the machinery which was about 5 metres off the ground on a platform.
“He was stuck for a long time but his colleagues were there with him throughout providing physical and mental support. They did a great job.”
Investigations will continue into the cause of the incident.
