Fatal Snowy Mountains helicopter crash to be investigated

Two people have died at the scene of a helicopter crash east of the Snowy Mountains Highway, police have confirmed.

Two people have died in a helicopter crash in Kosciuszko National Park overnight.

Police say emergency services found the wreckage about 200m east of the Snowy Mountains Highway at Kiandra Flats, shortly before midnight.

The pilot and passenger aboard helicopter died at the scene.

Emergency services found the aircraft following a request from the Australian Maritime Safety Authority Joint Rescue Coordination Centre.

Officers from Riverina Police District established a crime scene which will be examined by specialist investigators.

The circumstances surrounding the crash will be investigated, NSW Police said, adding the Australian Transport Safety Bureau has been notified.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
