A man has surrendered to police after they swarmed a central Wagga street during an operation this morning.
A number of police vehicles and tactical officers were seen at Quest Apartments and the Commercial Club on Gurwood Street.
Access to the premises were blocked.
Access via Simmons and Trail streets — which surrounds Wagga Public School — were also blocked by police.
In a statement, a police spokesperson said shortly after 8am, officers attended a home on Gurwood Street to speak with a man regarding the alleged intimidation of a police officer.
“Following a brief stand off, a 27-year-old man was arrested and taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station, where he is assisting police with inquiries,” she said.
“Investigations are continuing and charges are expected to be laid.”
Police Superintendent Bob Noble said the operation was resolved “by Riverina Police in Gurwood Street, Wagga, without injury or incident”.
“Police attended the area this morning as part of an operation to arrest a man wanted on warrants,” he said.
Earlier, he had urged the public to remain from the area.
Just before 10am, Gurwood Street was re-opened to motorists.
