A man is expected to be charged over an alleged armed robbery at a Wagga supermarket late last year.
About 6am on December 9, two men entered FoodWorks Lake Albert and one of them allegedly produced a shotgun before stealing cigarettes and cash.
The two men fled the scene in a white Jeep Cherokee believed to be stolen.
Wagga police started a pursuit and stopped shortly after for safety reasons and the Cherokee was later found abandoned on Adams Street, Ashmont.
Following extensive inquiries by detectives, a warrant was issued for the arrest of a 28-year-old man.
On December 16 last year, the 28-year-old man was arrested in Victoria for unrelated matters.
When those matters are finalised, it is expected NSW detectives will apply for extradition and the man will be charged with armed robbery.
The second man, who is yet to be located, was wearing a dark hooded jumper, dark-coloured cap with a faded circle on the peak, khaki pants and black gloves at the time of the alleged incident.
Police Inspector Adrian Telfer said the 28-year-old man is from Ashmont and that police will be alleging he was also involved in two other robberies in Wagga last year.
“It's a very serious matter. Obviously the people involved in this incident at Lake Albert were fairly traumatised,” Inspector Telfer said.
“It was quite a confronting incident. We've been able to let them know of this outcome today, so it is a good result so far.”
Inspector Telfer said “some fairly advanced technology” was used to identify the man arrested.
“This is really good police work by our detectives here,” he said.
Inquiries are continuing to locate the other man, and police are urging anyone with information to contact Wagga Police Station on 6922 2599 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
